Betta Fish Bowls for Sale

The Siamese Fighting Fish, more called the Betta, has traditionally been kept by people for the past hundred years. Unlike before where they are purposely bred for fish fighting, the Bettas are becoming more popular as peaceful aquarium residents. Over a period of selective breeding, Bettas nowadays look vastly diverse from their wild ancestors. If you go around aquatic stores, Bettas could be seen in an array of beautiful colors from the ordinary black or white to some shades of brown and more attractive hues of red, turquoise and blue. They also appear to have more elaborated appearances of their finnage.

Known as easy to care for fishes, they are mostly preferred as first time fishes for kids and for those who lack the time for maintaining tanks. Unlike other fishes, Bettas do not require air pumps, filtration and aeration systems. These fishes breathe and survive by going to the surface for air. Such ability makes them do very well in a fish bowl and has no need for larger and expensive aquariums. Keeping two male Bettas in the same bowl should be avoided though as this would cause them to fight and lead to one of them dying.

Beta fish bowls could come in many sizes. With the innovations of fish care, newer forms and designs, and even colors, of betta bowls were made available apart from the more familiar glass bowls fish owners are most accustomed to. Glass bowls later on were manufactured in more creative and unique shapes. These newer breeds of fish bowl for bettas are more appealing to kids and makes attractive accents to any room. Thawallaquarium.com, Bettasecrets.com, Bettamansions.com, Bettabowls.com and Aquariumfish.net has a wide selection of betta fish bowls for sale. Prices may vary according to its material, size and sophistication of design. However, you could find more amazing price deals at places like Amazon.com, Overstock.com, Eopinions.com and Ebay.

Keeping your Betta in a bowl instead of a tank could save you a lot of space too. It is good to remember though that you should keep it planted to mimic your Betta’s natural habitat. These creatures also prefer warmer temperatures, so place your bowl near a light source. In making success in caring for your Betta in a bowl, it is advised to learn the most desirable parameters you should keep. Such information could be obtained from the internet. The wonderful bowls you can keep them in makes your betta experience much more fun. The beauty and the lack of complication in keeping this fish makes it no surprise why Betta is a popular favourite.

Best Fish Pets for Kids

Pets are fun to have, and they add so much life to any living space. However, they require a great deal of time and attention. Kids would always long for a pet, and starts begging their parents for one, but they do not realize all the responsibilities involved in its care. Because of that, fishes make excellent pets for kids, though not too many asks for it. They’re fun to watch, and they could be relaxing at the same time. It doesn’t cost so much to keep one, they need not be groomed or taken for walks, or even scheduled for vet appointments. Aside from the ornamental value of keeping a fish tank at home, there are a lot of other benefits in keeping fish for a pet.

Fish are relatively easy to care for and could give you and your kids the pleasure and rewards you are looking for in keeping a pet at home. Before introducing one to your kid and to the whole family, there are a number of things you, as the parent would have to consider though. In choosing which fish is ideal as pet for kids, you have to think about the ease of care required and make sure you little one can handle the responsibility. Definitely you would pick out fishes that are known to be hardy. You have to think about the cost too; there are a lot of great fishes kids can care for easily that is inexpensive.  The maintenance cost is another thing. Coldwater fishes are known to cost much less because their tank lacks the heating requirement. Coldwater fishes are also sturdy and tolerant to water temperature changes and don’t easily get sick. So okay, your little one will have his pet, and will be feeding his fishes and take care of them like parents themselves. But when it comes to cleaning the tank, the job would most likely be done by you, so maybe you would consider fishes that have low waste output as well.

If you start going around pet stores and ask which fishes are best to be kept as pets for kids, Beta Fish, Goldfish, Guppies, Swordtails and Platies are just among the most common names that would pop out. The Beta fish (also known as Siamese Fighting Fish), is inexpensive to buy, do not require much space, do not require filter because of its low waste output, and has no need for a heater. The Goldfish is easy to care for. They are long-lived and require only the simplest daily care regimen. They are attractive because of its bright colors. They can also tolerate and would even prefer unheated tanks. Single-tailed common goldfish and Comets are the exceptionally hardy among the family. Domestic fantails are also known as hardy and could be good suggestions. Fancy goldfish varieties like Bubble-eyes, Orandas and Lionheads are great to have because of they are most attractive, but they could require a lot more care for kids to handle and might need some help from more experienced fish keepers, or maybe from you.

Guppies are inexpensive, attractive, easy to care for and most adaptable because they are able to live in various tank conditions. Swordtails are attractive and active swimmers. They are fun to care for and have great ornamental quality. Platies are sturdy, friendly and active fishes. They are the hardiest among the livebearers.  Platies are fascinating to watch with the great variety of colors they could come in. Like the Platy, the Tiger Barb is also known for its being active. Koi, Danios, Tetras and Gourami are known hardies and low-maintenance fishes. Tetras can even thrive in acidic environment. The White Cloud Mountain Fish is very ideal because of its extraordinarily peaceful character; it is also known to be tolerant to water temperature changes and could thrive in really low temperatures most fishes could not survive in. They come in a lot of variety, but most are very attractive and could make a great desktop display.

Swimming around the aquarium alone is never fun, you kid might want to give his fish company and put up a community tank. If planning to keep a community tank for your kid, choose fishes that are compatible and will not eat each other. The Green Catfish could be a great addition. They are peaceful and have great personalities. They also love to charm their owners. They love to eat the scraps and debris other fishes had missed out by vacuuming them up from the bottom of the tank. Another fine scavenger that makes wonderful additions to the aquarium is the Albino Morph. The Albino Morph could also go with any water condition. If your fishes are well chosen, they will live together in harmony and will create a stunning aquarium display.

Setting up a fish tank to prepare your kid for his pet might be overwhelming. But fish stores have available tanks that are sold as a complete package. Fish retailers can even help you and your kid set it up and offer advises to help care for the fishes and keep them healthy. Keeping fishes as pets can be both an enjoyable and educational experience for kids. Take time to choose the best fish pet for your kid and help him begin his aquatic adventure. With the right fish your kid will have a beautiful underwater display everyone will admire and for him to be proud of. Your kid would look forward to coming home from school everyday.

Betta Fish Facts

Betta fish are probably one of the nicest looking fish around. Also known as Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta splendens), they are one of the most popular specie for freshwater aquarium display. These ray-finned creatures are most appreciated for their brilliant colors. Though they come in all sorts of shades, red, blue and green are the most common. They often come in a combination of such colors and results in very unique color designs. Male betas tend to be more colourful and have longer fins than the females.

These creatures require very little to survive. Because of the low cost of maintenance and ease of care, they are more preferred to be kept by aquarium owners and fish enthusiasts. Those who are starting out in their fish keeping hobby tend to be advised on this specie over others that require a great deal of time and attention, and more often expertise to make them thrive. Bettas are discovered to tolerate poor water conditions and could live in smaller spaces (like small sized aquariums). But that doesn’t mean they have to be kept such way. Like any other fish, you need to provide them proper habitat and regular water change. Betta fishes have a fairly short lifespan, but with the right conditions, they could live up to three or four years.

Bettas are called Siamese Fighting Fish for a reason – - – they actually fight. Their aggressive nature is a distinguishing trait for Betta fishes. Such behavior stems from the need to protect their territory and to eliminate competition for food. The males tend to be more aggressive towards each other and even their own reflection could intimidate them as they perceive it as another male. Since Siams/Bettas only attack other males, it is never a wise idea to put two males on the same tank, as it would always result on one of them dying. However, a male betta may also attack a female if he feels threatened by her. Its aggression is easily seen when a betta would flare up his fins to try to make himself appear bigger and more superior than the other one. Female betas, on the other hand, are not aggressive and would do well if placed together.

Bettas breed quite different too. A male “courts” a female betta by building a bubble-nest among the leaves of floating plants where the eggs spawned by the female would be placed later on and would be fertilised by the male Betta himself. One other distinct feature of Siams/Bettas is their ability to breathe oxygen both in water and air owed to the labyrinth organ in their heads. This enables them to live in oxygen-poor environments. But that doesn’t mean they require less oxygen than other species. By nature, bettas feed almost exclusively on insects and larvae. Frozen or freeze-dried bone shrimp, daphnia, plankton, glassworms could be excellent options for feeding your betta pets.

Bettas bring a lot of life and beauty wherever you place them. They may have an aggressive nature, but some betas love to be raised from the water and stroked. They love swimming in their caregiver’s hand. You see, they can have their own personalities and could be man’s bestfriend. The beauty, grace and unique personalities of Bettas make them ideal pets.
